Letter from Nick

I just got your card! Ive been sick and working my ass off at the store (my entire staff was sick too) the last couple weeks which has left little time or energy for anything else. a) How do you auction off a beard? b) How were you able to manage that many people to go along with it? I can't begin to explain how much having this card in the mailbox helped my mood tonight! I haven't checked the mail in a week and a half and the picture, inserted below, is what it looked like once I removed the BS and pizza coupons. The left stack is medical bills! The right is everything else. I was feeling sick to my stomach by the time I got done opening everything. I came across your letter second to last, and just looking forward to a get well card was helping me tremendously. I never imagined that it would contain anything, and definitely not anything of that magnitude. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get the letter, but I'm glad I got it today. It came at the end of a real crappy day but managed to turn today into a great day. Tell everyone I said thanks! Tell Frank, I'm working on my triumphantness, tell Phil I'm happy the Universe wants me to be well and happy (my emails haven't been returned from Universe@yahoo.com, so I was unsure. It's probably Gmail now. Everyone uses Gmail), Tell George I love him too. Tell everybody that I'm working on my beard, but since the chemo my body only wants to grow a moustache! Bald with a thick ass moustache, now thats a look! Thank You! You've turned today into a great day for me.

Who Grew it Better?

Bearded Breathren:

A friend of mine is competing in a mustache competition -- "Who Grew it Better?". It is the first year of the competition and they are hoping to do it again next year for charity. There are some amazing amateur mustache growers ready to hit their prime and give Burt Reynolds a run for his money. Check out the blog and consider voting for him @ http://2010.whogrewitbetter.com/Stephen.html

Thanks!

It's official, the charity has been decided!

Dear Bearded Brethren,

I’m writing you to ask for your support in helping a good friend of mine. His name is Nick Calandro and he is going through a really tough time.

I met Nick about 6 years ago while living in Logan, Utah. Nick had moved there from Illinois with the opportunity to start a Pita Pit franchise. His hard work and outgoing personality helped his store become extremely popular and quickly landed him the title “The Pita Guy”. Most people in town knew him by this name only. Nick and I became good friends and he even let me come behind the counter and make a few pitas of my own. Nick has now moved on from the Pita Pit franchise and has been working his own store started in Austin, Texas called the Pita Factory.

A few months ago Nick encountered a major speed bump in his life. He learned that he had testicular cancer and that immediate surgery was needed to try to prevent it from spreading. With it being in such a vascular area, he learned that it had spread as it was now in the lymph nodes. He started his first round of Chemo on November 29th 2010.

The outlook is good, but as I’m sure you all understand, he’s going to be going through some really rough times. He has a great sense of humor and has started what he is calling his Chemo-Stache. It’s quite the fine handlebar mustache if I do say so myself.

Unfortunately Nick’s insurance is only covering $10,000/month for his treatment. When all is said and done, he is going to be in some serious debt.

I know he could really use the help and would be extremely appreciative and surprised by a group of bearded Bostonians helping him out. All monies from this auction will go directly to Nick.

Thank you,

Cody B. Green

Mustachio Bashio 2010!!!

We made it! The great beard experiment is nearing its end. Let us bring our beards together for furry bonding and celebration! After a month of itchiness whats four more days? Mustachio Bashio and beard auction will be this Saturday at Mikes place. Please invite all those that supported your unruly facial display and even better invite the critics too! More details to follow....

The final Day

Let it be known that I have completed this month of follicle growth in style. What kind of style is not relevant. I would too be up for some sort of bashio to commemorate our time together as hairy brethren...

On the Most Manly of Holidays...

Apologies for the lateness, but my post comes on the most manly of holidays. Today I shall give thanks to turkeys with extra legs, football, and bearded brethren.

I think we may have found our menifesto

And it comes in the form of a new york times editorial from 1860

(no offense intended to Mike. These were less tolerant times, but you sir, you wear it proud and you wear it well.)

midway update

As you can see I am obviously the most dedicated, as I have gone to the extent of immobilizing my right arm, so that I could not shave even if i wanted to.

Better late than never

Here I offer my delayed proof of adherence the the conditions of participation

Charity Suggestions

By this time most beards have passed the awkward adolescent stage and moved on to young adulthood. I have seen several of the bearded brothers in person and the sight of so many furry faces brought a tear to my eye. Well done men! Now it is time to consider how we turn this festive affair into philanthropy. The first weekend of December there will be a mustachio bashio to celebrate the completion of Novembeard. There will also be a beard auction. The person with the winning bid on a beard may shave it, or not, however they see fit. The money raised will go towards a charity of the groups choosing. Now is the time to suggest any worthy causes. Post your ideas in the comments and chime in on others suggestions as well. It is also a good time to start recruiting family and friends to sponsor the purchasing of your beard. There will be an online auction for those unable to attend the Mustachio Bashio.

Kissing a man with a beard is a lot like going to a picnic. You don't mind going through a little bush to get there!

Halfway to Beardom

There have been some itchy days. My girlfriend has begged and bribed me to trim the stache. A coworker offered to buy me a razor. I have turned the other furry cheek to them all!

Mid-monther

I'm not saying I possess the super-model girlfriend or 3 Superbowl rings, but goddamnit I might be able to pass myself off as him to some unknowing female(only for the sake of this month's spirit, of course...)

16 Candles For My Beard...

I don't know about the rest of you fools, but this relationship is bringing TWO beards to the table. Looks like some of your mates have to start picking up their slack. Jess, Erin, Liz, you know who I'm talking about...
